Time: Don’t Manage it - Channel it

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

Time may be the ultimate illusion but in the final analysis it’s is all we have. Consider that without it there literally is nothing else, not within our perceivable, physical realm. And with it, seemingly all possibilities exist.

Yet how people “manage”  their time is ultimately what separates those who achieve their ideal future - their success, and those who don’t. On the most basic level, “success” becomes a derivative of time management. But, the question is; do high achievers really “manage” their time or *more* »

Steve Jobs, Synchronicity, Connecting the Dots & Trust

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Stanford Commencement Address 2005.
Mr. Steven Jobs; Monster-Entrepreneur, Apple & Pixar CEO, Super-Hero Extraordinaire

“Life can only be understood backward, but it must be lived forward.” ~Kierkegaard

Every time I see this speech I’m awed by the number of gems Steve shares. I find it interesting to overlay these anecdotes against the backdrop of my personal experiences. His tales of opportunity, following his heart, continuous learning, failure, humility, and of course, mortality are both profound and inspiring.

However, I ask you, “How unique are they?” Just how rare are these “coincidences?”

The question I encourage you to ask is, “where are the parallels?” Surely you recognize you don’t have to be CEO of a couple fortune 500 companies to notice that, ultimately, the song remains the same; that these synchronistic events happen daily for everyone. The real question is not, “how rare is this?” But rather, “How aware am I to the events and all the possibilities?”

Think about it. *more* »

Redefine in 2009: 9 Questions to Realize One Big, Dream Goal in the New Year!

post: mitch w. steel

As we quickly approach 2009, it’s time to ask some quality questions. And, the best time to ask those questions is NOW. In fact, the only time to ask those questions is now.

Remember, questions help to control your intention, attention and direction. They help to manifest guidance and answers. Establishing and achieving a BIG goal is NO different then establishing and achieving a small goal. There is absolutely no difference.

A determining factor in every case is belief. Do you believe you will achieve the goal? As Buddha stated several millennia ago, “He who believes he is able, is able”. If you don’t believe you are able, see this post.

Walt Disney, me and a few C’s

Friday, December 12th, 2008

“Somehow I can’t believe that there are any heights that can’t be scaled by a man who knows the secrets of making dreams come true. This special secret, it seems to me, can be summarized in four Cs. They are curiosity, confidence, courage, and constancy, and the greatest of all is confidence. When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionably.” ~ Walt Disney

Walter Elias Disney. Now there was a man who deserved a “Sir” before his name if ever there was one. A legend. Certainly, an incredible SUCCESS by anyone’s definition. You would be hard pressed to find a man who’s vision and inspiration has positively touched more lives. At this very moment, kids are skipping around and smiling the grandest of smiles because of his vision; to create “the happiest place on earth”, Disneyland.

What seemingly everyone forgets is, much like our first HERO President Lincoln, his road to such heights was extremely difficult. He had a multitude of opportunities to quit. I found it hard to believe that Walt was told he had no talent when trying to submit his cartoons to a local paper as a young man. Imagine that, the creator of the iconic Mickey Mouse character! Also, later in his career, as an entrepreneur, he suffered multiple business failures and even a bankruptcy. Bet you didn’t know that. *more* »

Yes, it’s time to create a “Heroes” section on Succcess.org! With so many remarkable successes in this world, both past and present, this is a great way to inspire our collective will AND validate the “3 C” formula.

I know from personal experience that reading about and meeting truly successful people has always helped to provide motivation.

CERTAINTY and FAILURE

“If you want a guarantee, buy a toaster.”
~Clint Eastwood

Seems we all want a guarantee these days.

Similar to the microwave ‘complex’ (post) the majority of people seem to fear failure. They seek certainty. Who can blame them? Unfortunately, the problem with certainty is it simply doesn’t exist- not in this world. Don’t take my word for it. Consider this quote straight out of Wikipedia, “It is widely held that certainty is a failed historical enterprise“. How good is that?

The absence of any certainty creates FEAR.

The Belief Tree: Why Success is Binary

"Whether you think you can or you can't,
you are right."
~Henry Ford

This quote, in my estimation, may be Ford’s best invention. Perhaps, even better than his invention of the automobile for mass production.

It explains succinctly, and yet very accurately, the vital role of BELIEF in the workings of your life. You simply can’t be successful in any endeavor if you don’t first start with the proper mindset - a belief in your ultimate success.

Yes, your mindset - how you view the world and your place within it -and your belief “system” (related paradigm) control your ability to reach your intended target. And, here’s the kicker–FROM THE VERY START!

Our core beliefs fall into two MASTER categories which are not unlike the core underlying “boot” records in computer terminology - which are called Master Boot Records. *more* »

The Oak Tree vs. The Microwave

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago.
The second best time is now.” ~Chinese Proverb

There are many young adults today completely lost. Totally disillusioned and frustrated.

So many fine young men and women in their 20s, 30s, and even 40’s who’ve lost touch with the natural maturation process of personal development and personal success. These individuals seek instant gratification. They want success, and they want it now! The phrase, “paying your dues” unfortunately, doesn’t register or doesn’t apply to them . . . or so they think.

Why? I’m thinking you can go ahead and blame it on the microwave oven. Yes, the microwave oven. Think about it, these same “kids” are now adults and they’ve only known one thing — instant gratification! Need a quick meal? Pop it in the microwave. How about some leftovers - throw it in the microwave. The trusty microwave has now made the concept of “waiting” obsolete.

Consider that on some Freudianesque level, one of our most basic needs - food (warm food) has been relegated to a 30 second episode. There are now multiple generations programmed for instant gratification.

Over the last 30 years the microwave has subconsciously programmed millions of youth to think that they can have anything — right away. Whether it’s a pizza or, I humbly submit to you, success. *more* »
